Can I still participate in the study?
We have completed our recruitment goals for the study. Enrollment was open from February 2012 to October 2012.
How do I know my saliva kit has been mailed?
You should receive a confirmation email within 24 hours of taking the survey. Your kit should arrive 5-7 business days later. If you do NOT receive a confirmation email, please make sure to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call us at toll free 866.575.0110.
How long do I have to return the saliva kits?
You should return your kits to us as quickly as possible. The sooner you send them back, the sooner we can complete the research. The kits actually have very long expiration dates, but sooner is always better. If you think your kit is damaged, can’t find it or believe it was lost in the mail, please contact us right away.
What should I do if my child and/or I are having trouble using the spit kit?
These are a few collection tips participants find useful. Be patient it will take a little while to collect enough saliva. Try rubbing the outside of your cheeks in circles for 15-30 second to activate your saliva glands. Look at your favorite food (we think brownies work well) to active your saliva glands. If you find it hard to create saliva, place ¼ teaspoon of white table sugar on your tongue.
Is there another other option to collect a saliva sample?
We have an easy-to-use sponge kit available that does not require the participant to spit. A sponge simply absorbs the saliva. This saliva collection process is very helpful for young children, those who may have dry mouth, and those who simply cannot spit.
